The Council for Holocaust Awareness of Idaho (CHAI) is honored to announce the upcoming visit of Holocaust Survivor Pete Metzelaar to Boise and the Sun Valley area in early December. Pete will be giving two free public talks: the first on Tuesday evening, December 2nd, at the Egyptian Theatre in downtown Boise and the second on Wednesday evening, December 3rd, at the Liberty Theater in Hailey, Idaho. Times will be available soon.

Pete was seven years old, living in the Netherlands, when most of his family members were arrested by the Nazis in 1942. Metzelaar and his mother went into hiding in a small farmhouse in the countryside and built an improvised cave in the forest as a hiding spot for when Nazi trucks would show up at the farmhouse looking for Jews. The Dutch Resistance greatly aided Pete and his mother. They also relied on their own bravery and endurance - the will to live. Pete's story is remarkable and essential to know when educating children and adults about the horrors and triumphs during the Holocaust. Pete's talk is extraordinary and proves the importance of living history. And to never forget.

Pete's upcoming visit to Idaho is hosted by the Council for Holocaust Awareness of Idaho (CHAI). The nonprofit organization's acronym, CHAI, pronounced "hi", is Hebrew for "life." We hope that Pete's visit will spark an essential interest in the state of Idaho to learn more about the Holocaust and its worldwide implications. Pete is the perfect person to share his personal and incredible story.

The Council for Holocaust Awareness of Idaho (CHAI) would be grateful for donations and sponsorships to support Pete's upcoming visit and CHAI's important and life-changing work in Idaho. All the funds raised will be directly used to support Pete's free talks and visits to schools, as well as to provide additional educational outreach to Idaho's public and private school students and educators. We are currently in the midst of creating responsible Holocaust curriculum that will be available to Idaho teachers at no charge. CHAI also sponsors special author and film events and is currently developing educational Holocaust Trunks to be distributed free of charge to Idaho's schools.
